Dear friend,

Thank you for your interest in Solis Health. Whether you are a patient, caregiver, family member, healthcare professional or someone who wants to learn more about cancer, we are delighted to welcome you into the Solis community.

“Cancer” is a scary word for most people – it certainly was for me. When my mother was diagnosed with cancer, it felt as though my entire world was falling apart. In addition to the emotional distress my family and I were going through, we were also grappling with fear, confusion and uncertainty about the road ahead.

I soon realized that a lot of the anxiety we were experiencing was due to lack of support and lack of information. While we had access to the best medical care, our clinical team simply did not have the bandwidth to help us understand the realities of our situation and we were largely left to our own devices. Each of us struggled to cope with our own emotions at this vulnerable time. Worse, we were constantly shuttling between various hospitals and diagnostic centres – grey, windowless places which did not improve our mental state.

I remember discussing these issues with my mother. We wondered if there was a place we could go, somewhere more familiar and comforting than the hospitals, where we could seek the emotional, practical and social support we so desperately needed.
